Patterned Shorts

I had the boyfriend snap these while we were heading out to meet some friends last week.  I can't believe I haven't taken pictures there before, the bright yellow is so fun!

I got these silky shorts from Target a couple of weeks ago and am excited that it's finally warm enough to wear them.  They look dressed up, but feel like wearing pajamas.  Which, really, is like living the dream.  

Shopbevel was kind enough to send me these fun earrings.  According to the designer, they're supposed to be a modern take on a feather earring.  I really like the edgy design, and that they weren't so heavy they weighed my ears down.

Easy 4th of July Photobooth

My boyfriend has thrown a "3rd of July"* party for the past several years with his roommates, and now that I'm the roommate it looks like I'm throwing it too.  My friends and I were talking about how we could cuten up the party a bit, and decided a photobooth was definitely a must.

I set it up with a giant American flag I found on Amazon, a couple of chalkboard word bubbles, and you know, your typical stash of mustaches and lips.  

I put a camera on a tripod, set it to self timer, and then things with the boyfriend got a little silly.  

Don't worry, I'll be posting some of the best shots from the night next week.

*Yes, 3rd of July.  Because boys are silly.  And so that they could stay up really late since they didn't have work the next day.

Bachelorette Look

I knew the bachelorette party I went to a couple of weeks ago would be fairly casual so I wasn't really planning on dressing up.  Then these shoes came in the mail, and I kind of had to.  They were surprisingly comfortable, I kept them on all night through all of the dancing and climbing on tables a night of norebang requires.

Mid-Year Resolutions

Who says you can only make resolutions in January?  I actually didn't make any resolutions this past New Years, but I'm in the mood to make some changes in my life now.

I resolve to get a lot more use out of my cutest shoes
I resolve to go running at least once a week
I resolve to clean my closet once a week (you know, so I can actually see my clothes)
I resolve to wear more lipstick
I resolve to keep up with eating healthier (cause it's working!)
But I also resolve to cheat now and then ;)
I resolve to bring more beauty into my everyday life
I resolve to spend more time offline, and to spend my online time more efficiently

Do you ever buy anything because it feels like kismet?  I was on Shopbop during a major sale, and found these shorts, left only in my size.  So of course, I had to get them!

I love the little hint of emerald these earrings add to my look.  I usually only wear simple studs, but I'm loving the impact these make.

Wedding Weekend Recap

As I mentioned on Friday, this past weekend was full of wedding activities - a bachelorette party for my almost sister-in-law, a shower for my cousin, and the wedding of two of my friends.

In what's becoming a new family tradition, the bachelorette party included a little norebang - Korean-style karaoke (we did the same for my sister's bachelorette party).  Boys were invited, which I think confused and amused my boyfriend and his friends.

I gave the bachelorette some stickers to hand out, and she put "worst dancer" on me three times.  I think she's trying to tell me something ;) 

My cousin really likes sharks, so her shower on Saturday was shark themed.  The girls planning it really went all out, there were a couple of cute things I recognized from Pinterest (including a shark fruit salad!).  We played a couple of games, including something called "He said, She said" which I'm playing above.  

On Saturday night we headed out to the suburbs for what my boyfriend said was prep for the ceremony on Sunday - it turned out the groomsmen all just wanted to get together and watch the Blackhawks together.  But since we were there so early, I got to have a little pool time.  The wedding itself was really interesting and fun.  It was a traditional Jewish ceremony which I've never experienced before.  It turns out that includes about an hour and a half straight of dancing between the ceremony and dinner.  All of the guys in our group loved it, there was lots of jumping and tossing the groom around.  

I took Monday off of work to relax and recoup, which was totally necessary.  I'm pretty psyched for the rest of this week, one of my good friends is moving to Chicago and will spend a couple of days with us before she moves into her new place.  I hope you have a great week ahead!

Pink & Stripes

You can't tell, but I snapped these pics in a hurry last week before those intense storms rolled through.  It was still sunny, but you could see the clouds looming to the west.  I used to love storms when I was little, but now they freak me out a little.  Maybe because of all of the super destructive tornadoes that have been rolling through Oklahoma, or maybe because there isn't a good place to seek shelter in my current house - every room has windows!  Needless to say, I took a couple of pictures and then ran inside.

What I'm Wearing to a Wedding

Over the past few weeks I've been posting what to wear to different types of weddings.  This Sunday I'm hitting my first wedding of the season, so I thought I'd share what I'm planning on wearing.  I'd share the invitation too, but you know, I don't want you to stalk me.  It'll be a fairly formal and religious wedding, so I'm dressing up a little more than usual and trying not to show too much skin.  And also, apparently wearing every color in the rainbow.  Don't worry, I tried everything on together and all of the color actually worked.  Like, almost too well.

I actually have a whole weekend of wedding fun planned.  Tonight is my future sister-in-law's bachelorette party, and tomorrow I'll be heading out to the suburbs for my cousin's (shark themed!) bridal shower.  I hope you have a great weekend!!

Warm Weather Work Wear

Wow.  That title.  Helloooo, alliteration.  My fourth grade poetry teacher would be proud.

For the past couple of months, I've been dying for a white pencil skirt.  I'm not really sure why, I don't remember pinning an outfit with one or even seeing one in stores.  Which made my search particularly tricky.  Luckily JCrew Factory pulled through for me.  Confession: this is the first thing I've ever gotten from JCrew Factory.  Or JCrew.  Sorry for all of the jaws that now have to be picked up off of the floor.

Easy Guacamole

So I'm letting you in on a big secret.

Okay, maybe it's not that big of a secret.

But basically, when you take store bought pico de gallo and mix it with mashed avocados, you have instant guacamole.  Squeeze some lime juice over the top and you're good to go.
