Dressing up for parties is always the hardest thing to do. You want to look dressed up, but not too dressed up. I think this dress is the perfect solution - the color and faux leather accents make it feel dressy, while the cut and pockets make it feel more casual. I ended up wearing it to a couple of holiday events this year, paired with heeled booties and a sparkly statement necklace when I wanted it to feel a little more dressed up, or with my fur vest and boots when I wanted to dress it down.
Just a little tip - when you're going all black and want to wear tights, go for sheer tights rather than opaque. It helps to break up the look a little and keep you from blending all together.
